Water for everyone!!
We are Francisca and Pedro, a young couple from Portugal that decided to drop the corporate life in US for a year to volunteer abroad. Somehow we ended up in Uganda volunteering with Rural Healthcare Foundation.
RHCF is a Non Governamental Organization that provides sanitation and health care in one of the rural regions of Uganda. The organization is formed by 10 people who take care of many subjects that no one cares about, such as, support and care for people affected and infected with HIV/AIDS, provide community access to clean safe water and basic hygiene and sanitation practices, care and support of orphans and vulnerable children in the communities, women empowerment through income generating activities and human right advocacy and poverty alleviation through sustainable Agricultural practices.
At the moment RHCF is working in some projects to improve the sanitation of the communities in Mubende.RHCF has been responsible for clean safe water supply in the last 10 years in the region of Mubende, so far they have built 100 wells that supply water to many of the villages that do not have access to water. It is estimated that a single well can provide clean safe water to 600 people.
Unfortunately, while working with RHCF we realized that there is still so much to do... We saw so many people colecting water from dirty and contaminated ponds that are shared with the animals, we played with kids in school that were drinking brown water from the closest pond.
We knew it was going to be hard to volunteer in Africa, we knew that we could be shocked with some situations but what we have seen is beyond imagination. It is impossible for us not to get deeply involved with RHCF cause. Therefore, we are asking you to help us to help them.
Help us to raise enough money to build one more water well! The total cost of the water well is 4000€, it seems a lot but we are sure that together we can make it happen. Any help is appreciated, your contribution can provide clean and safe water to 600 more people.
We all think that we cannot change the world, sometimes just for a lack of courage other times because it is really beyond our possibilities. However, we must not forget the problems of the world, we must keep ourselves aware of the problems and try to give a lift to those who work hard everyday of their lives to contribute to a better world.
